How Covering the Maryland State House Shaped My Voice as a Storyteller
Every storyteller remembers their first newsroom—the place where deadlines taught you discipline, red pens taught you precision, and people’s stories taught you empathy.
For me, that place was the University of Maryland’s Capital News Service, where I covered the Maryland State House and Senate. My beat was social issues—the human side of policy—and it gave me a front-row seat to how legislation shapes lives.
I still remember racing between committee hearings, juggling interviews on the marble steps, and learning that good reporting isn’t just about breaking news; it’s about building understanding.
Looking back now, I’m proud of those early stories and the foundation they built for everything I’ve done since in communications, philanthropy, and mission-driven storytelling.
